SNDS Top "Ten" List

Anyone who has ever seen the David Letterman Show knows that Dave has a "top ten" list.  I thought that I would enjoy selecting a particular wedding related item, researching it, and making my own "top ten" list. My plan was really to make it a "top five" instead of "top ten" because I thought that ten might be too many to find.
So recently, I have really been struck by some pretty wedding cakes that I have seen and I thought that this would be the first item to research and use for my top five.   Before I knew it, I had downloaded pictures of more than 20 cakes.  There are so many amazing and talented people out there doing extraordinary work, and I really want to share these with as many people as I possibly can.   I narrowed the photos down by a few, but these cakes are just too beautiful not to share with you.  So here they are.

                                                 From Cakewalk Confections:

                                                       From Clara's Designer Cakes:

                                                    Another one from Party Favors:

                                                     From Sally Cakes:

                                                    From Sensational Cakes:

                                                    From Signature Productions:

                                                     From Sweet Life Patisserie:

From The Cake Shop of San Jose:

                                                From Goehrig's Bakery:

                                                      From Yummy Kake:

                                                        From Annie O's Custom Creations:

                                                    From Blue Moon Cake Design:
If I am not mistaken, the last three cakes feature hand painting.  Ah yes.   Cakes after my own heart.   Gorgeous.
There are so many beautiful cakes out there, and just too many to feature.   Can you pick just five?  If you are interested in looking at more, here's the link to Wedding Wire and you'll be amazed at the photos, but plan on putting in some time there.

Anyway, be sure to check out our aisle runner lens on squidoo where we are going to post a You Tube video showing how to apply fondant to a cake so you can see what kind of work goes into creating these magnificent wedding cakes!
And if you are getting a beautiful cake like this for your wedding, why not get an aisle runner to match?  We can coordinate your aisle runner and accessories with your cake and make everything match!

(PS The SNDS Top Ten List is going to become a regular post category on this blog.... but please note that the number of actual items on the list may vary  :)

We are so excited to have been featured today at The Bridal Wishlist.  It's a very pretty blog and we contacted them earlier in the week hoping that they might feature us.   And we are very happy to say that they did agree to feature our wedding aisle runners!   Here's a link to the post, in case you didn't catch it earlier today....  The Long Walk: Starry Night Design Studio

New Web Graphic for Starry Night Design Studio

I don't know if it was the adrenaline or the caffeine, but I stayed up waaaaaay later than I should have last night working on the computer.  I was playing around in Photoshop (my favorite) and wound up putting together a nice graphic for the website, Starry Night Design Studio.

It's the new link and logo for our premiere collection of wedding aisle runners, Grand Entrances.  These aisle runners are hand painted with original artwork that is designed based on the client's specifications.  I have used the actual artwork from a previous aisle runner order on this graphic.

It's live on the website now,  but I will probably move it to a better location on the pages tonight.
Anyway, I am really happy with the way it came out.  And I'd like to thank my friends on Squidoo for the input.  Please be sure to check in on us through our wedding aisle runner "lens" on squidoo and get involved!   Let us know what you think!

Tangerine & Raspberry

I was inspired in this sweltering heat today by the colors in the dress that my daughter was wearing. I love the combination of tangerine and raspberry. Maybe it's the heat, but I just kept seeing two large scoops of frozen sherbet! It's a really bright and cheerful combination of color. So, as the summer starts drawing to a close, I wanted to get my "last licks" in on a summer color inspiration board.

Art Deco Styled Aisle Runner

I had a chat with a prospective client the other day who inquired about doing an art deco design for her aisle runner to match the style of her wedding. So it seemed to me that Megan Battistella was right on track with her recent blog post, Wedding Invitation Trend Watch 2010/2011 at Adair Design. You should check out Megan's beautiful designs for unique wedding invitations and I am sure that you will love them as much as I do. You can really see the difference when you work with an artist/designer instead of ordering something from a catalog that so many people have ordered before.
Needless to say, I was inspired to do my own interpretation of this classic style. So here is my take on the art deco aisle runner.
Remember, every bride should make a grand entrance at her wedding!

I am very happy to announce that we will be featured in tomorrow's "Friday Fun Finds for your Wedding" post on Kathy Strukel's blog. I met Kathy on Twitter, and she sent me a message (DM actually, for those of us who are hip to the lingo) the other day mentioning that she was going to feature our wedding aisle runners this week. How exciting!
So please be sure to check it out tomorrow on her blog at, www.perfectweddingsolutions.blogspot.com

AUGUST GIVEAWAY!

We know that it is not easy to plan a wedding in this tough economy.
So, we decided to offer a promotion for the month of August that will hopefully help!

As our gift to you, we are offering 10 FREE table numbers with the purchase of ANY aisle runner during the month of August.
The numbers themselves (in order from 1 through 10) are printed on heavy 80 lb cardstock and each card is then individually painted by hand with the artwork that we design just for you. You can use the design on the table numbers that was used on the runner, or you can choose something else! It’s a wonderful way to have something truly unique and exquisite at your wedding. Who wouldn’t want accessories that an artist designed and hand painted just for your wedding?

You tell us about your theme, or flowers, or colors or ideas and we do sketches based on the information that you provided. You select the design that you like best, and once everything is approved work will begin!
This is the process for your custom aisle runner, as well as for your table numbers. As a matter of fact, you can have the same design done on everything (stationery, place cards, paper cones, etc) and make everything coordinate!

Please take a look around our main website, Starry Night Design Studio for more information and details and please don’t hesitate to contact us to answer any questions that you may have. Who says you can’t have an extravagant wedding on a budget?

Aisle Runner Magnifique

So I wanted to share my latest hand painted aisle runner with everyone.
This is a fresh bouquet of white and peachy daisies on a sweet yellow fabric runner. Above the flowers is the phrase in French, "je t'aime de tout mon coeur" (I love you with all my heart), and below the bouquet are the bride and groom's names and date.
Pretty flourishes were added above and below the design and frame it beautifully.
So happy with this one!

I love when you are presented with wonderful ideas to work with!

Flower of the Month - August - Gladiolus

The official flower of the month for August is the gladiolus. It's botanical name is Gladiolus communis, and it is also sometimes called the Sword Lily. The gladiolus has some great attributes that makes them popular for bouquets. You can find them in lots of colors such as pink, red, white, orange, yellow, purple, and bi-color. They are available year round, and because they are on a long stem, you get varied type of blooms. You will have a large open ruffled flower as well as a bud on the same stem. The flower's meaning is graceful; strong sense of character, and the word Gladiolus is Latin for "sword".

I was thrilled that I did the research for this post because I found that I REALLY LIKE this flower. And until I did this, I had never given thought to doing an aisle runner design with painted gladiolus flowers on them, but I am going to have to do one now!

Aisle Runner Accolades

I was in touch this week with a client who recently ordered an aisle runner from us. She was nice enough to send me a slide show of photos from the wedding. The bride was stunning, the dresses were beautiful, the venue was gorgeous, and the weather looked terrific. It was an outdoor ceremony on a stone patio and it was decorated with beautiful flowers and every detail was perfect. Right down to the hand painted aisle runner, of course. Now I am not giving myself a pat on the back. The client plays a huge part in the design of the runner. It's her ideas, her colors, her choice of flowers that when presented to me, give me the opportunity to design something that meets her vision. As I mentioned, the wedding was really beautiful, but that stone patio would have looked very plain without a runner on it! It designated the pathway, and it's the perfect backdrop for the bride! It even serves a practical purpose - especially for outdoor weddings - because it protects the bride's dress and shoes from dirt and stains! Don't forget this important detail on your wedding day - it really makes an impact on the whole look of your wedding. Photos are on their way - please stay posted.
