Holiday Lane

I just realized that it's been quite a while since my last post.  We were preparing for a move to a new studio location in January, and filling lots of orders, and getting ready for Santa, of course!

Unfortunately, the new studio fell through a couple of days ago.  We had found a great location to work on our wedding aisle runners that was centrally located and easily reachable, but it just wasn't in the cards!  So for now, we are going to stay put, and hopefully, we will be able to find another place just as great in a few months.  We are looking forward to the extra space to work on orders, and we love being able to meet and work with you one on one!  In the meantime, we are putting together great catalogs and samples and we cant wait to work on CUSTOM artwork (not just computer generated graphics!) for your wedding in 2010!

For the Long Island Brides, please be sure to check out our work being featured at The Wedding of the Year, hosted by Long Island Weddings at the end of January.  Please visit the Long Island Weddings website for more details!  And don't forget to enter the contest to win an aisle runner in one of our most popular designs!

Happy Holidays to all,  and to all a Good Night!

Daddy's Girl

Don't forget your Dad!  He wants to be involved in your wedding plans too!  I came across a list in a Bride's Magazine of 25 secrets to keeping everyone happy, and here's number #10:

"Ask your dad's opinion about something important - the wine, the menu, whether Aunt Ellie will be offended if the band plays gangsta rap, whatever - so he knows that he's a vital part of the day and not just a check-writing machine"

GIVEAWAY - Hand painted ring bearer pillow

To kickoff this week's giveaway, we are offering a hand painted ring bearer pillow.  We are showcasing the same design as was used on last week's table numbers, so that you can get an idea of how the same design can be used to coordinate all of your wedding accessories.  The fabric on the pillow is light ivory, but you have your choice of paint colors.   The initial is topped with a satin bow that holds your wedding bands.

To enter the contest, go to this LINK showing digital designs of our custom wedding aisle runners, and let us know which one is your favorite.  Then come back to our blog, and leave us a comment letting us know your favorite.   You must include your wedding date to be eligible to win.  Please don't forget to leave your email address on the comment form so that we can contact you (we will not publish it).  Winner chosen at random.
Contest ends Friday, November 20 at 7:00 PM EST.
*Please note that you will be billed the shipping fee - usually $7.95 by priority mail USPS
Good luck to all!

Makeup for your Big Day!

Of course everybody wants to look their best on their wedding day.  When planning a wedding on a budget though, you might not be able to have your makeup done that day by a makeup artist, so maybe you are experimenting with doing it yourself.   Have you heard of ELF (eyes, lips, face) Cosmetics?   Their mineral makeup is really quite nice, and super reasonably priced!  I had never used mineral makeup before, and when I saw their prices, decided to give it a try.  There really is nothing quite like the way it feels and looks on your face.

Pick up a few things and start experimenting!  See more on their website, ELF Cosmetics

WINNER - Painted Wedding Table Numbers

We had a giveaway this week of hand painted table numbers in one of our popular designs.  We'd like to send our congratulations to the winner, Gloria, who wrote:

"My favorite aisle runner from your Grand Entrances Collection is the Monogram. So classic, but with a touch of whimsy. Let me know if we can use your beautiful table cards at my daughter's June 25, 2010 wedding!"

Thanks so much for entering Gloria!

Please stay posted for our next giveaway coming up later tonight.

Picasso Calla Lily

Wow!  I came across this flower today flipping through a magazine.  It's called a Picasso Calla Lily and apparently they have become very popular recently.  I can understand why - they are truly beautiful.  And I have to admit, the calla lily is not my favorite flower, but this one is so different and interesting!
I think I know what I will use for the inspiration for my next hand painted aisle runner prototype!

Wedding Giveaway!

I know this was supposed to happen this past Friday, but I needed a little extra time!  We would like to announce our first official wedding giveaway on this blog.  This is going to be a regular feature, and it's going to happen every Friday with a fabulous new item!  Since this one is not starting until Sunday, the giveaway will run 12 days instead of just 7.
Today we are giving away 12 hand painted table numbers.  The actual numbers are printed onto heavy cardstock, which is then scored and folded.  The paper is heavy enough to stand on its own, so you will not need to purchase a separate frame or holder to put them in.   It features my original artwork (the design that is shown in the picture).  It is individually drawn and painted onto each card.  You will see my faint pencil marks, but this is the beauty of hand painted stationery, and it shows that these were done by an artist (not a computer).   You can have your choice of paint color.    We are giving away cards numbered 1 through 12.  If you need additional cards, you can purchase them separately.   If you like this design, remember that we can do it on any of your wedding accessories (invites, aisle runners, cones, place cards, etc) to make everything coordinate!

Ok so now for the contest rules.   You need to go to our website, Starry Night Design Studio and take a look at our Grand Entrances collection of wedding aisle runners.  Come back here and leave a comment letting me know which is your favorite design from this collection.  (Please be sure to leave your email address on the comment form so that I can contact you if you are the winner).   You must also leave your wedding date to be eligible to win.
The deadline to enter will be Friday, November 13 at 7:00 PM EST.   The winner will be announced shortly thereafter and a new giveaway will start later that evening.

I am so excited to kickoff these giveaways and I hope you enjoy them too!

Masquerade Ball Themed Wedding

Masks are becoming increasingly popular in the fashion world these days. You see more and more of them appearing on runways and on celebs.  The "Masquerade Ball" is always a popular theme for weddings planned for this time of year too, so I thought a gallery of masks would be appropriate with Halloween right around the corner.  Aren't these amazing?

Remember that we can match the aisle runner to your wedding theme.  One of the major advantages that you get when you order a custom aisle runner from Starry Night Design Studio is that we can do sketches and original drawings based on the information that you give us.   If you were to tell us that you were doing a masquerade wedding theme, we might send you a design like this one to approve.

I can imagine the mask done in bold colors and trimmed with sequins and beads.  Or we can keep it simple and paint it just in a single color.  It's totally up to you!

We recently did a giveaway on Brenda's Wedding Blog, and we were thrilled with the way that it turned out.   So, we decided to start doing weekly giveaways on our own blog.   Each week we will host a giveaway of our fabulous wedding accessories (AND aisle runners)!  The items will feature our original artwork, so this is a great way to get something that's really unique for your wedding!  Our first giveaway starts FRIDAY and the rules will be posted with the item.  We have all sorts of great ideas planned, so please be sure to check back often and enter to win.  No strings attached!!

Flower of the Month - October - Cosmos

The official flower of the month for October is Cosmos.   Cosmos bippanatus, also known as Mexican Aster and Chocolate Cosmo are

available Summer through Fall and come in many beautiful colors and patterns.  You can find them in white, red, pink, brown, orange, yellow and purple, and in solids, stripes, or bi-colored.  They are pretty on their own, but make a lovely complement in bouquets with other flowers.   They come from the Latin word Kosmos, meaning beautiful.   The blooms are very fragrant, and chocolate cosmos even smell like chocolate.   Use them in your wedding bouquet, and we can also paint them onto your aisle runner, invitations, place cards, and other wedding accessories to make everything co-ordinate!

Budget Aisle Runners - Coming Soon!

We have some very exciting things going on in the studio this week.  Many of you have told us that you love our runners, but when planning a wedding on a budget, there is not always room for every detail.  And regrettably,  one of the details you are eliminating is the aisle runner.  We hate to hear that!  But, this terrible economy is affecting us all, and so we understand your dilemma!

This inspired me to do some serious thinking, and we're working very hard on finding new materials that are going to cut our costs WAY down.  We in turn, can then pass these savings on to you.  The result?  You CAN have a fabulous GRAND ENTRANCE at your wedding with a very affordable aisle runner that has original artwork designed just for you.

Please keep posted to our blog and our main site, Starry Night Design Studio.
Full details about what's in my bag of tricks are coming very soon!  I can't wait to share them with you!

WINNER - Aisle Runner Giveaway!

We had an amazing giveaway this week of one of our hand painted aisle runners.  We entered our MONOGRAM aisle runner (one of our most popular designs), and the giveaway was hosted by Brenda at Brenda's Wedding Blog .   The winner was announced at 6:00 AM this morning, and we'd like to send our congratulations to Kristin who wrote:
"I love the monogram aisle runner. Our wedding location is outside, so we will make our own aisle with the chairs and the runner would just be the icing on the cake. Our wedding is October 16, 2010."

Thanks so much for entering Kristin!  We can't wait to get started on this special aisle runner for your wedding.

We'd also like to thank everyone who entered the contest, and for the wonderful comments that they left.   If you like our aisle runners, but don't think that they fall within your budget, we ask you to contact us anyway.  We are really interested in getting our wedding aisle runners "out there", and so we will do our best to work with you to get you this special wedding detail at a price you can live with.

We are also working on new runner materials that have a lower price, so we are sure that we can find a solution that works for you.
Please contact us to explore your options.  You can reach us on our website, or by email at stephanie@starrynightdesignstudio.com.  We think that every bride should make a grand entrance on her wedding day!

SNDS Top Ten List - Bridal Shoes

Anybody who knows me knows that I love shoes.  Most women do.  So I really threw myself into researching my top ten favorite bridal shoes.  In fact, I enjoyed this so much, that I may do it for every season!
First, I will tell you that I LOVE high heels.  The higher the better!  So you are not going to see any flats - and by "flat", I mean anything under 3".    I also don't usually pick open toe shoes.  And that's not because I don't like them.  It's just that I always feel like you are not supposed to wear pantyhose with sandals.  But how can you not wear pantyhose for a formal occasion?  Bare legs are too casual.  Anybody have any thoughts on this??   Anyway - I try to circumvent this debate all together by not picking sandals for evening shoes.  But there are a few on this list that were too pretty not to include here.  So ladies... enjoy!  And remember to keep those pretty shoes clean (especially for an outdoor wedding) by using one of our hand painted aisle runners!

                                                        #10 - PORTIA

                                              #9 Badgley Mischka - HARROW

#8  Giuseppe Zanotti - E7155

#6  Benjamin Adams - LANA (could you just die?)

                                    #5   PEACHES

#4 Stuart Weitzman - DRAMAHALT

#3 Grace - TALIA

#2 Stuart Weitzman - SUPERBOW

#1 Grace - SCARLETT
